Editor’s Letter – March 2017

I always feel that March is a turning point in the year – as the days start to get brighter and the evenings get longer, there’s a sense that spring is in the air. It’s also the month of my birthday, so an extra excuse to eat cake! With the Boat Race coming up soon I took it upon myself to do a little research into the history of the race, which began way back in 1845. The facts were very insightful, so below are a few more interesting facts and figures about things happening in our
neighbourhood this month.

More than 20,000 people will be making their way to the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea this month to browse the works of more than 1,000 artists and perhaps take a chosen piece home. We spoke with the AAF Director on page 10 to find out what’s new and what to expect from this year’s exhibition, and we share some tips on how to negotiate the best deal when it comes to buying that special piece of art. 250,000 spectators will watch the boat race on Sunday 2 April. I caught up
with the Head of Rowing at Fulham Reach Boat Club to learn more about the amazing work they do within the community and how rowing is much more than exercise and competition.

In 2016 Billy and Jack were runners-up on BBC’s MasterChef, and they’ll be cooking up a storm at their very own supper club coming to Battersea on 24th March at the London Food Project, read all about it on page 9. Mum’s the word this month with Mother’s Day on Sunday 26 March so we have some perfect gift ideas for all those special ladies out there on page 42.
Spring has officially sprung!
